Carbon materials have emerged as an attractive class of material family for high-performance material development and they are considerably important for the scientific technology revolution. Renewable biosourced carbon derived from various biomass and agricultural wastes for innovative value-added applications has gained great interest in recent years. This is due to its sustainability, high surface porous structures and unique intrinsic properties. The light-in-weight, thermal stability, and odorless make biosourced carbon a more attractive choice over other natural fillers and additives for biocomposite development. Engineered biocarbon possess great potential for a wide range of applications, including batteries, capacitor, super-capacitor, electronic applications, reinforcement and additives, energy storage, catalyst, adsorbent, etc. The development and advancement of biosourced carbon-based composite materials promote the valorization of various biomass and waste stream materials for more sustainable use of resources.

This Research Topic aims to present the current state of knowledge, research progress, and the possibility of using carbonized biomass in technical applications, not only in the field of composite processing, but also in related areas where carbon structures of natural origin can be widely used. The current state of knowledge allows to state that the process of biomass carbonization/pyrolysis not only for ecological management of organic waste from many branches of industry, but also allows for obtaining materials with an extremely wide range of properties. The aim of many currently conducted works is mainly the modification of biomass sources or the carbonization process in order to obtain the desired properties of biosourced carbon such as hardness, thermal/electrical conductivity, porosity, and surface properties. From the perspective of the discussed Research Topic, the works are devoted to the possibility of using a special type of biosourced carbon in advanced applications, such as lightweight composite structures, conductive materials, energy storage, etc.

This research topic is focusing on the synthesis of biosourced carbon derive from various biomass resources and their biocomposite fabrication techniques. We welcome the submission of Original Research, Reviews, Mini-Reviews, and Perspectives on related topics, including but not limited to the following topics:

• Pyrolysis process kinetic and its co-product characterization i.e. Bio-oil (biofuel), syn gas, and biosourced carbon

• Biomass conversion through hydrothermal liquefaction

• Preparation of biosourced carbon and its application in various fields e.g. batteries, capacitors, and super-capacitor, electronic applications, reinforcement and additives, energy storage, catalyst, adsorbent (for waste water treatment), etc

• Polymer matrix composites reinforced with biosourced carbon (including thermoplastic, thermoset, and rubber)

• Biosourced carbon for renewable biocomposites uses and other innovative applications

• Novel synthesis of nano-size biosourced carbon and bio-graphene
